Welcome to the homesite of L'Angelus, the Cajun Fiddle Swing band from Louisiana . Some of you have known us since we were kids, playing the Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio fair circuit with our Mom as part of Linda Lou and The Lucky Four. Many others have seen us performing at music festivals and theaters throughout the country. And some of you are seeing us for the first time right now.
When we were just getting started twelve years ago we were playing the sideshow stages at the county fairs. Our act was often set between circus attractions. The audience had a choice: they could watch a woman wrestle an alligator , a man light himself on fire and dive sixty feet into a tub of water. They could watch pigs racing . Or they could watch us sing.
Soon enough Paige was wearing a large white hat with a six foot long pink boa, Steve was yodeling while Dad held him upside down, and we had learned hundreds of popular songs from every kind of music. Although we've dropped some of the props, we have tried to keep the intensity that comes from competing with man-eating animals and human cannonballs.
In 2005 we came back home to Louisiana to learn the spirited music of our father's Cajun and New Orleans Irish ancestors, combine it with the vocal harmonies of our mother's Appalachian people and to bring the soul of that music into our dance sets and our concerts. Ever old, Always new.
Thank You for coming. We hope to meet you in person at a L'Angelus show sometime soon. |
